Our next online SRN Discussion and Support Group meeting is at 17.30 GMT on Thursday 19 November 2026.

At this meeting, we have a network member, Tom Roberts speaking:

“Dr Tom Roberts will present findings from his recently completed PhD research project, ‘Valuing co-production in mental health: exploring comics as a form of arts-based collaborative practice’.

This project looks at what people who experience distress think about the idea of ‘co-production’ (sometimes called patient participation or service user involvement, among other terms) and how they have encountered such initiatives in the services they use. In doing so, it explores comics-making as a participatory research practice. Tom will discuss what people’s perspectives and experiences were of participation and involvement, particularly in the context of the research project itself, considering what creative, artistic methods can do to support understandings of distress.”

Tom’s thesis can be viewed here.

The meeting also includes a peer support section  where you can bring issues relating to involvement in research  for support and discussion.

Our meetings are on Zoom. You can register for this November meeting here.

Although our primary focus is often on mental health research in England, we also welcome researchers with lived experience of mental distress who are involved in other areas of research and survivor researchers from outside England and the UK.

We need your feedback on these meetings. If you’ve been to any of our Discussion and Support meetings in the last year or so, please let us know what you think of the meetings and share your views on what you want from them. We are also asking about the timing of the meetings. Please spare a few minutes to  complete our anonymous feedback form  here.
